The Birdcage

Adapted and directed by Andrew Gardener
Starring Andrew Gardener
September 17th - October 10th, 2010 at Laurence Oliver Theater
Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday at 2:30 p.m
This wonderful extravaganza has been adapted for the LTG stage by Andrew Gardener, and is a charming blend of The Birdcage and La Cage Aux Folles. Andrew, who also directs and plays the role of Albert, has added show-stopping musical numbers interspersed with the story to give a well rounded tale of two Jewish, middle aged gay men who run a night club in South Beach, Florida. Their son, the product of one night of romance with a straight woman, wants to marry the daughter of a moral and upstanding Senator. Fun and laughs ensue when the son, Val, tells Armand and Albert that the Senator and his family are coming to dinner to meet them and they have to act straight and Christian.
The costumes are as incredible as they are lovely. As Armand says in his opening lines, “Let us take you into a world of fantasy and entertainment, where boys may be boys and girls may be girls, or boys, but we will let you decide as you enter the world of The Birdcage, where some of the most beautiful women are men.”
